Buckshot featured at Myspace Comics
The first eight pages of my new comic Buckshot has been featured on Myspace Comics today.
Dumb things that I think about.
In Marvel Comics there is a group of bad guys called the Circus of Crime. It’s basically a Circus with a ringmaster that can hypnotize people, a strong guy that is strong, a snake lady that controls snakes, and a clown that looks like pedophile(pretty much your standard clown) Somehow they run a successful circus in and around New York City and they rob their patrons. Here is a miscolored picture of them:

There is a trend in comics for opposite versions of the hero or groups like the Fantastic Four has the Frightful Four and the Justice League has the INjustice Gang so I figure the same should follow for the Circus of Crime. Except my opposite number for the CoC would be a little more modern and uh more french.
The Cirque de Justice!

They will bore the crime right out of you!
Staying ahead of the zeitgeist
Here’s a movie idea:
First Gentleman (probably starring Vince Vaughn or Will Ferrell)
What do you do when your wife becomes the most powerful person in the free world? Quit your dayjob and kick it in the White House!
Comedic moments could include:
Playing video games in the Situation Room.
Football with your bro-hams on the White House lawn.
Kegger on Air Force One
Pranking the cranky VP
Hijinks, hilarity etc…
Feel free to send me bags of money Hollywood Execs that may be reading this.

Our Work is Never Over
If I don’t get this comic out of my head I think it’s going to kill me.
Wendy (the lifemate) and I were talking the other night about developing characters as she’s taking a creative writing class right now and I came to realize how much my Buckshot story is a bastardization of ideas that have been percolating in my head for a while now. I actually sat on it for a year or so and just filed it away in a loose ideas folder on my computer. It wasn’t until Jeff and I decided to co-write a comic did it all start coming together. Now I have 96 pages thorughly plotted out and 32 pages written and waiting to be drawn.
False starts in writing are a bitch but false starts in comics will break your heart I completed four (and a half) pages and then decided it wasn’t matching what was in my head and started over from the character designs on up. I’ve completed two pages of the revisions and I’m much happier with it but damn do i wish I was better, faster, stronger (Daft Punk Andy Khouri shout outs.) Ideally I’d like to be able to pencil ink and color a page in a day but I’d settle for two days as it’s currently taking me about three.
The other end of that stick is trying to figure out the zen like balance of not overthinking the work making everything too stiff looking versus going too fast and making everything too sloppy. And not getting too stuck in my head about being too in my head. Thinking less and drawing more.
If you click over to my sketchjournal, I’ve actually posted the new and old pages for comparison and if you keep on scrolling down you’ll find some character designs too.
